Having been open since the early 1990s, these professional stores have an excellent reputation locally. The Bournemouth store has even been voted top Electric Bike Dealer in the UK.


2. Bournemouth Cycle Works, Iford, Bournemouth

Another highly recommended bike shop, the staff here are friendly and are experts in their field. Their mechanics are all Cytech Credited, the bicycle industry’s only creditation for cycle mechanics and technicians.


3. Cycle Paths, Poole Town Centre

This no-frills, knowledgable bike shop is located in the centre of Poole, just off Falkland Square and metres from Poole railway station. They also run ad hoc bike maintenance courses if you are interested in learning how to look after your bike.


4. Pedal Cycles, Ferndown

A Brompton Premier Store, this overwhelmingly recommended bike shop has a wide selection of Bromptons in stock as well as the other brands. If required, owner Sharon is on hand to help women find a bike to suit them. Parking is also available on site.


5. On Yer Bike Charminster, Bournemouth

Established for over 25 years, this bike shop has over 600 bikes in stock across two floors, including BMX.


For cycling enthusiasts we also have a couple of great cycling hubs. These combine contempory cafés with bike workshops and prove to be very popular with the local cycling community.

7. Velo Domestique, Southbourne, Bournemouth

A proud cycling community hub, this bike shop and café in the heart of trendy Southbourne. You can even create a totally unique bike tailored to your specific needs with their custom bike building services. The café serves a varied menu and is a great place to have breakfast.

Local Bike Hire in Bournemouth & Poole

If you don’t have a bike, there are plenty of places to hire them from. In June 2019 the newly merged council started running a bike share scheme across the area. Beryl bikes is a set of 50 dockless bikes that can be hired via a smartphone app.

These bikes only have 3 gears however and can be rather heavy. If you are looking for a bike that does a bit more than get you from A to B perhaps hire one privately from one of these options below.

Cycling Routes Around Bournemouth & Poole

There are some super cycle routes to be found in the area. You can cycle the 7 mile promenade along Poole Bay seafront, best tackled in gentle winds.  During the busy summer months of July and August it is closed to cyclists between 10am and 6pm.

Further information about this and more Poole cycle routes can be found on the council website, including the Heritage cycle route and the Castleman Trailway, which is along a disused railway line.
