This popular historical country estate and accompanying listed Georgian mansion house is a top park Poole-based, and has something to keep everyone entertained, young and old.

About


Length of time they've been running:

The estate and house were developed by the prominent Spurrier family over 200 years ago and the country park was officially opened in 1976 for the public to enjoy.

Currently run by Poole Council and the Friends of Upton County Park, it has since has become well-loved by locals and tourists alike.

What makes them unique:

Entrance to the park is free apart from car parking, and there is much to do upon arrival. You can admire the grand Grade II* listed Georgian mansion house, take in the wildlife by the harbour, let the children play in the playground and on the front lawn, participate in the regular activities and events - or just find a quiet spot to enjoy the amazing horticulture and beautiful botanical walled garden.

Spurrier’s Play Park and Park Grounds

Built in late 2019, Spurrier's play park is an enormous natural timber play area suitable for children of all ages and abilities.

The park grounds are extensive and have recently grown in size too, the gardens close to the estate are dog free, but the surrounding areas to the West are large and perfect for dog walking, there are numerous cycle paths too.

The front lawn is suitable for ball games and family picnics whilst to the side and back of the house (which can be visited on open days) there is a duck pond and more beautifully landscaped formal gardens to relax in.

The Tea Rooms & Walled Gardens

The fantastic rustic tea rooms, connected to the walled garden, is the centre point of a visit to Upton, and serve delicious home-made sandwiches, coffee, tea and cake and much more.

Upstairs is an art gallery and outside you can eat on a terrace that looks out on a delightful walled garden, with its expertly managed beds, borders and a splash fountain in the summer months.

Events and Venue Hire

There are many regular activities for children and adults, indoors and out, that tie in with the season. Areas of the house and park can also be hired for corporate events, weddings and private functions.
